Cherry wooden furniture is popular in today's homes. Cherry is a strong, high-grade cabinet timber with a beautiful red undertone. It's available in light or dark wood colors, but also darkens with age. This darkening quality makes cherry wooden furniture even more beautiful over time. Cherry wood is of medium density, with a fairly fine, even texture, and generally straight grained except in the neighborhood of large knots and near the butt. Flat-sawn material shows a well-marked growth-ring figure. Cherry wood works and finished fairly well in most machine operations, turns well, gives excellent results with polishing and finishing in rich details.

Light cherry wooden furniture tends to look warmer, yet less formal than dark cherry. Cherry can look especially elegant in hand-carved beds. Some cherry post beds feature hand-carved details of flowers or other designs across the headboards, footboards and posts.
